Locate the update file you just downloaded. Save it to your desktop, or another location but be sure to note the alternate location so you can find the file after the download is completed. You will be prompted to save the file to your computer. Select the link to download the update file. Select 'Manual Update' for steps to install the update.In this case, you will have to upgrade your software, which usually means buying a new version of Quicken.
If you do not see your version of Quicken listed, this means your version is older and no longer supported. For example, Windows users with 2016 version look under the 'Supported for Windows' column and select 'Quicken 2016.' It will take you to a page listing the release notes, which detail the fixes, changes and new features included in the latest update. Select your Quicken version year beneath the operating system of your computer.

For Mac users, you will only find release notes here to download the latest update, follow the instructions in the previous section under 'Quicken Updates for Mac.' Here you will find Quicken versions by year for both Windows and Mac. If the file doesn’t automatically open, click on the Open Quicken File button at the bottom of the screen. There is no file conversion process required to open a Quicken for Mac 2018 or newer file. Start from a Quicken for Mac 2018 and Newer file. I am now on the 3rd round of customer service calls. I have diligently been forced into upgrading purely because mac has improved with time and no longer can run older versions of Quicken. I have been using Quicken Mac since 2004. Quicken Mac 2018 is a glorious flaming waste of time if you want a semblance of tracking investments. Overall, we think that Quicken for Mac 2018 is a good improvement, but is still lacking some key features that can be found online for free, using services like Personal Capital or Mint. Note that Quicken 2018 does not support Windows XP or Vista.
This was a huge disappointment and does decrease the usefulness of Quicken if more manual work is needed to keep your information in sync.
